Heritage

Title – Heritage
Acrylic on Canvas Board
I painted this painting for my daughter to help her during a school project. As I was painting, I thought of our rich Christian heritage. “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” George Washington.
However, at the same time, I also was troubled, as I thought of how we have failed both our forefathers as well as our posterity. I thought about how we have allowed others to tell us it was impolite to talk about religion and politics in public. So, we stood silent trying to be polite while others rewrote our history, taught our children, and misinterpreted our laws. We allowed inferior opinions and beliefs to color our judgement against all data. We even paid to have our living rooms bathed in the glow of a broadcast full of blasphemy against our Lord, while we laughed and pretended it did not affect our families or us. Instead of salt, too often we became mirrors of the society instead of reflections of God.
Nevertheless, even in our disobedience in the face of knowing the Biblical warnings and instruction we are still given hope. “…If my people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
So I decided, as we all should, let the next great awakening start with me. Let me be the one who boldly and lovingly tells the truth in those awkward moments. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
